New Delhi: The Centre approved 6,18,482 PMAY-G houses for Uttar Pradesh and extended the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement period for wheat, gram and masoor till July 8 during a high-level review meeting between Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over approval letters for both decisions at the meeting held at Yojana Bhavan. He said the measures would strengthen rural development and provide immediate relief to farmers across the state.
The Centre extended MSP procurement for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27 after the Uttar Pradesh government sought additional time. Consequently, farmers can now sell wheat, gram and masoor at MSP until July 8 without facing distress sales caused by delayed arrivals or market congestion.
Chouhan said Uttar Pradesh contributes nearly 38 per cent of India’s wheat production. Therefore, he stressed the need for a scientific and long-term agricultural roadmap to safeguard food security and increase farmers’ income.
PMAY-G houses and climate strategy receive priority
The Union Minister also approved 6,18,482 PMAY-G houses under the new phase of the rural housing scheme covering 2024-25 to 2028-29. He said the allocation would help eligible rural families move into permanent homes under the Centre’s Housing for All mission.
Officials have completed the survey to identify beneficiaries living in kutcha houses. Moreover, the Centre assured financial and technical support to ensure timely construction and transparent implementation.
Chouhan also expressed concern over below-normal rainfall and possible El Niño conditions. Therefore, the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government agreed to prepare district-wise contingency plans that promote short-duration and low-water crops.
The roadmap will combine crop planning, irrigation, water conservation, improved seeds, technology and marketing strategies. In addition, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and state agriculture officials will provide timely advisories and technical guidance to farmers.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister of State Baldev Singh Aulakh, Minister of State Surendra Diler and senior Union and state officials attended the meeting.
Chouhan said the Centre and Uttar Pradesh would continue working together to strengthen agriculture, improve rural infrastructure and ensure that farmers and poor families directly benefit from government schemes.
