Hyderabad: Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna called for prioritising students’ futures, educational standards and regional aspirations while framing the Education reform bill. He made the remarks during a Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting in New Delhi on Friday.
The committee met to examine the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill-2025. The proposed legislation seeks to overhaul India’s higher education regulatory framework.
The Bill proposes the creation of the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan as a single apex regulator for higher education. It aims to replace the University Grants Commission, the All India Council for Technical Education and the National Council for Teacher Education.
The proposed framework aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020. It seeks to establish a unified structure for regulation, accreditation and quality assurance.
During the meeting, officials from state higher education departments, education experts and representatives of various organisations presented their views. Committee members also discussed institutional autonomy, quality standards and access to higher education.
Education reform bill discussed by parliamentary panel
Vamsi Krishna said the legislation should strengthen educational quality and improve opportunities for students across the country. He stressed the importance of addressing regional concerns while implementing reforms.
Furthermore, members examined ways to make higher education more efficient, accessible and accountable. They also reviewed proposals related to accreditation and governance.
The Congress MP expressed confidence that the Bill could help build a stronger education system. He said the reforms should benefit students while supporting national development goals.
In addition, Vamsi Krishna presented the perspectives and aspirations of Telangana and the Peddapalli Parliamentary constituency during the discussions.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee is expected to prepare a comprehensive report after reviewing suggestions from stakeholders and experts.
