WhatsApp education services launched for Telangana students and parents

Hyderabad: Telangana government launched WhatsApp education services to provide school-related information and services directly to more than 18 lakh students and parents across the state.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy formally launched the initiative at LB Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. The platform was developed by the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD)-MeeSeva Division of the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department in collaboration with the School Education Department.

The initiative aims to improve communication between the government, schools, students and parents. Moreover, it seeks to make educational services more accessible through one of the state’s most widely used digital platforms.

Under the programme, parents and students will receive updates on academic progress, examinations, scholarships, school events and health initiatives. In addition, the platform will share information on educational material distribution and other student-focused activities.

Several services are already available through the platform. These include progress reports, hall ticket downloads, marks memos, examination results, bonafide certificates, transfer certificates and SSC memo correction requests.

WhatsApp education services expand digital access

Officials said lakhs of students and parents have already used digital education services during the past year. As a result, the need for physical visits and paperwork has reduced significantly.

The next phase will introduce additional features. These include attendance updates, feedback systems, pre-matric scholarship services and information on uniforms, textbooks and notebooks. Furthermore, the platform will provide details on mid-day meals, sports activities, health programmes and residential school welfare initiatives.

A key feature of the initiative is Palapitta, the Indian Roller mascot. The mascot will deliver important updates through engaging video messages on WhatsApp. Therefore, officials expect communication to become more interactive and easier to understand.

Speaking at the launch, Revanth Reddy highlighted the government’s commitment to using technology to improve educational outcomes. He said digital platforms can strengthen engagement between schools, students and parents.

Officials said the launch of WhatsApp education services marks another step in Telangana’s digital governance journey. Ultimately, the initiative aims to deliver faster, transparent and citizen-friendly educational services across the state.
