Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said the English proficiency programme would help teachers improve communication skills while preserving students’ mother tongues and cultural heritage.
The Governor presented certificates to participants who completed the two-week training programme at Lok Bhavan on Friday. The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, organised the programme for teachers working in Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions across Telangana.
He appreciated the efforts of EFLU and the Tribal Welfare Department in strengthening the teaching abilities of educators serving in remote tribal areas. Moreover, he said better English language skills would improve students’ confidence and expand access to higher education and employment opportunities.
The Governor noted that teachers play a vital role in shaping students’ futures. Therefore, he said such training initiatives would help bridge educational gaps and support holistic development in tribal regions.
English proficiency programme supports tribal education
As part of the initiative, Lok Bhavan sanctioned ₹12.80 lakh from the Governor’s Discretionary Fund. A total of 50 teachers and five EFLU faculty members participated in the training programme.
Furthermore, the Governor reaffirmed Raj Bhavan’s commitment to supporting tribal welfare and educational development. He said students must gain skills needed to compete in a global environment. However, he stressed that equal importance should be given to protecting mother tongues and preserving tribal cultural traditions.
Congratulating the participants, he urged them to apply the knowledge gained during the training for the benefit of their students. He expressed confidence that the programme would strengthen classroom teaching and improve learning outcomes in tribal educational institutions.
Special Chief Secretary to Governor M. Dana Kishore, EFLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagaraju, Joint Secretary to Governor K. Shashikirana Chary and Associate Professor Dr. Raja Ram attended the programme.
