Cold wave intensifies across Telugu states as temperatures plunge

Hyderabad: The cold wave in Telugu states intensified as temperatures dropped sharply across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, pushing several regions into single-digit readings and disrupting daily routines.

In Telangana, minimum temperatures fell to extreme lows across multiple districts. Patancheru recorded 8 degrees Celsius, while Adilabad reported 9 degrees. Meanwhile, Hyderabad experienced a sharp chill as the mercury dropped to 13 degrees, significantly reducing outdoor movement.

Several areas also witnessed dense fog during early morning hours. As a result, visibility reduced and vehicle movement slowed in parts of the state. Dundigal recorded a minimum temperature of 13 degrees, while Hayathnagar reported 14 degrees.

The cold severely affected homeless people sleeping on pavements. Consequently, many were seen seeking donated blankets and bed sheets to protect themselves from the biting conditions.

Cold wave in Telugu states to persist until December 21

The Meteorological Department said the cold wave in Telugu states would remain intense until December 21. It warned that western Telangana could record minimum temperatures between 7 and 9 degrees over the next four days. Therefore, authorities advised people to remain cautious and limit exposure during night and early morning hours.

In Andhra Pradesh, cold conditions worsened steadily, particularly in agency and hilly regions. The Araku Valley and surrounding areas remained covered in dense mist throughout the mornings.

Lambasingi, Araku and nearby villages recorded single-digit temperatures, with minimum readings ranging between 2 and 5 degrees. As freezing nights continued, residents in agency areas struggled to cope with prolonged cold conditions.
