Krishnaiah urges CM Revanth Reddy to hold MPTC, ZPTC polls with 42 per cent BC reservations

Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha MP and National BC JAC chairman R Krishnaiah urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to conduct the upcoming MPTC and ZPTC elections with BC reservations fixed at 42 per cent.

Krishnaiah wrote to the Chief Minister and sought implementation of the quota before the election process begins. He later explained his demand at a meeting held at BC Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Referring to the Kamareddy Declaration, Krishnaiah said the Congress party had promised 42 per cent BC reservations in local body elections. He said the government must fulfil that commitment without delay.

Krishnaiah alleged that the state government denied justice to Backward Classes during the recent sarpanch elections. He warned the administration against adopting the same approach again in the MPTC and ZPTC polls.

BC reservations demand raised ahead of local body elections

Ahead of the local body elections, Krishnaiah demanded immediate notification of 42 per cent BC reservations. He said the government should issue the order before announcing the election schedule.

He warned that the National BC JAC would launch a statewide agitation if the government ignored the demand. He said the organisation was prepared to lead protests across Telangana.

Krishnaiah cited Article 243D of the Constitution to support his demand. He said the provision empowered state governments to enhance reservations for Backward Classes in local bodies.

He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to honour the Congress party’s election promise. Otherwise, he warned, the government would face strong resistance from BC organisations across the state.
