DRDO conducts successful Pralay missile test with salvo launch

Odisha: The Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully conducted a Pralay missile test on December 31, carrying out a salvo launch of two missiles in quick succession from the same launcher off the Odisha coast.

DRDO conducted the flight-test at around 10.30 am as part of user evaluation trials. Both missiles followed the intended trajectory and met all mission objectives, officials said. Sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur tracked the missiles throughout the flight.

Telemetry systems installed onboard ships near the impact points confirmed the terminal events. Officials said the results validated the missile’s performance under operational conditions.

Pralay is an indigenously developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile. It uses advanced guidance and navigation systems to achieve high precision. The missile can carry different types of warheads to engage a range of targets.

The Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad developed the missile in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories. These include DRDL, ASL, ARDE, HEMRL, DMRL, TBRL, R&DE (Engineers) and the Integrated Test Range.

Pralay missile test confirms system readiness

For the trials, Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited integrated the missile systems as development-cum-production partners. Senior DRDO scientists, user representatives from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and industry officials witnessed the tests.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, defence public sector undertakings and industry partners on the successful salvo launch. He said the test established the reliability of the Pralay missile system.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat, also praised the teams involved. He said the successful Pralay missile test indicated the system’s imminent readiness for induction by the users.
