KTR slams Musi project, alleges massive corruption conspiracy

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of running the “biggest corruption conspiracy in Telangana’s history” through the Musi River rejuvenation project during a heated debate in the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to statements made by the Chief Minister, KTR questioned the government’s announcement of a ₹1.5 lakh crore project cost even though the Detailed Project Report was still a year away. Therefore, he alleged that the Congress government had fixed figures without technical backing to benefit select private firms.

KTR said the Musi project targeted low-income families living along the river. He accused the government of demolishing houses before securing statutory approvals and displacing the poor in the name of development.

The BRS leader alleged that the government selectively ignored illegal constructions near Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar. He claimed ministers owned these structures, while authorities focused only on clearing poor settlements.

KTR Musi project allegations target contracts and displacement

KTR warned that the government planned to hand over the Musi project to Mainhardt. He alleged that the firm had faced Red Corner Notices and past blacklisting. Therefore, he said awarding such a contract exposed the true intent behind the project.

He also criticised the language used by the Chief Minister in the House. He said the remarks were “more foul-smelling than the polluted Musi itself” and reflected frustration over questions raised about personal wealth.

KTR blamed the Congress and the TDP for decades of neglect that led to the river’s degradation. Moreover, he said Revanth Reddy could not escape responsibility, as he had been part of both parties in the past.

Calling the project a real estate-driven agenda, KTR alleged that the government aimed to clear nearly one lakh homes in central Hyderabad. He claimed the move would free valuable land for benamis and political loyalists.

He contrasted the current plan with the BRS government’s Musi master plan, which proposed a ₹16,000 crore project through global tenders. He said that plan focused on rejuvenation without displacing residents.

KTR also demanded clarity on whether the proposed 20 TMC of Godavari water for the Musi would come from the Kaleshwaram project. He raised the issue even as the government continued to criticise that scheme.

Concluding his remarks, KTR said the Congress government’s real agenda would soon become clear to the public. He added that the BRS would stand with families affected by the project.
