Hyderabad: Former minister and Assembly Deputy Floor Leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Sunday said the agitation would continue until the government created a separate Secunderabad Municipal Corporation.
Addressing party leaders from Sanath Nagar and Cantonment constituencies at his camp office in West Marredpally, he announced a series of meetings and protests to intensify the demand. He said the movement would proceed in a planned and sustained manner.
As part of the campaign, Talasani announced a key meeting on January 11. The meeting will bring together public representatives from the seven Assembly constituencies under the Secunderabad Parliamentary constituency, including leaders from the Cantonment segment.
He said the January 11 meeting would finalise arrangements for future programmes. It would also chart the next course of action for the movement.
Talasani also announced a massive rally on January 17. He said nearly 10,000 people were expected to participate in the rally.
The rally will begin at Secunderabad Railway Station. It will pass through Clock Tower, Patny, and Paradise Circle. Finally, it will conclude at the Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG Road.
Secunderabad Municipal Corporation demand intensifies over delimitation
Talasani warned that no one would tolerate attempts to dilute Secunderabad’s historical identity. He referred to the delimitation exercise under which the government merged 20 municipalities and seven corporations within the Outer Ring Road into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
As a result, he said, the number of GHMC divisions increased from 150 to 300. He criticised the government for planning three new corporations while ignoring the long-pending Secunderabad Municipal Corporation demand.
He said Hyderabad and Secunderabad had existed as twin cities with distinct historical identities. Therefore, he questioned how civic boundaries could be redrawn without proper consultation with public representatives and residents.
Criticising the government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Talasani alleged that unilateral decisions were being taken. According to him, such actions bypassed democratic processes and undermined Secunderabad’s heritage.
He said protests would continue until a corporation was formed in Secunderabad’s name. He added that the agitation would remain peaceful and phased, with participation from leaders across political parties.
Leaders from labour unions, business bodies, trade associations, district achievement committees, former civic representatives, and division-level leaders attended the meeting.
