Lakshadweep: The Indian Navy announced that it will conduct a Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from January 12 to 16, 2026, to strengthen healthcare outreach and civil-military cooperation in the islands.
Chief of the Naval Staff Adm Dinesh K Tripathi will formally inaugurate the five-day Lakshadweep medical camp. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive medical care through specialist consultations, treatment services, and selected surgical interventions, including cataract surgeries.
The Lakshadweep medical camp forms part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing Navy Day outreach activities. Over the years, the Navy has conducted regular medical camps across the islands, covering primary care and dental services. With continued support from the Lakshadweep Administration and strong community response, the initiative has now expanded into a multi-speciality format.
Lakshadweep has an established government healthcare network comprising district hospitals, community health centres, and primary health facilities. The medical camp is designed to complement these services by providing coordinated access to specialist and super-specialist care.
Lakshadweep medical camp to cover five islands
The Lakshadweep medical camp will cover Agatti, Kavaratti, Androth, Amini, and Minicoy islands. A Joint Services Medical Team from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force will conduct the camp, ensuring integrated healthcare delivery.
Medical consultations will be offered in basic specialties, including dental surgery, and super-specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology, and gastroenterology. In addition, surgical teams will carry out cataract surgeries and selected general surgical procedures in coordination with local health authorities.
Medical specialists have already begun screening patients across the islands. Teams will also provide guidance on follow-up care to ensure continuity of treatment after the camp concludes.
Alongside curative services, the camp will focus on preventive healthcare and awareness. Medical officers will interact with residents on lifestyle-related conditions, maternal and child health, nutrition, and general wellness.
Senior naval leadership will attend the inauguration, including VAdm Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command; Surg V Adm Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services; and Surg V Adm Kavita Sahai, Director General Medical Services (Navy). Senior officials from the Lakshadweep Administration will also be present.
The Indian Navy said the Lakshadweep medical camp reflects its long-standing commitment to humanitarian assistance, community welfare, and service to the nation.
