New Delhi: Indian Railways announced the introduction of nine Amrit Bharat Express services from Assam and West Bengal, strengthening affordable long-distance rail connectivity across India.
The Press Information Bureau said the new trains would be flagged off shortly. The services will link eastern and northeastern regions with major destinations across northern, southern, western, and central India. Officials said the expansion would meet rising passenger demand while keeping fares affordable.
The Amrit Bharat Express routes will pass through populous states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They will also connect distant states including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Indian Railways said the services would support travel for employment, education, and family needs.
The railway introduced the Amrit Bharat Express to serve everyday passengers. The trains offer non-AC sleeper-class travel at fares of around ₹500 per 1,000 kilometres. Shorter journeys carry proportionately lower fares. The fare structure does not include dynamic pricing.
Since the launch in December 2023, Indian Railways has operated 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains. Within one week, the network will expand with nine additional services. Officials said the move marked a major boost for eastern and sub-Himalayan connectivity.
Amrit Bharat Express routes and modern onboard facilities
The new Amrit Bharat Express routes include Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar). Services will also run from New Jalpaiguri to Nagercoil and Tiruchirappalli. Additional routes include Alipurduar–SMVT Bengaluru and Alipurduar–Mumbai (Panvel).
Other services will operate between Kolkata (Santragachi) and Tambaram, Kolkata (Howrah) and Anand Vihar Terminal, and Kolkata (Sealdah) and Banaras. Indian Railways said these routes would create seamless corridors across multiple regions.
Trains from New Jalpaiguri will directly connect North Bengal with southern India and central Tamil Nadu. Services from Alipurduar will link the Dooars region with major industrial and metropolitan hubs. Officials said the routes would act as vital lifelines for migrant workers and students.
Connectivity to Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Panvel will improve workforce mobility and business travel. Routes passing through Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will also strengthen movement along the eastern corridor.
Passengers will benefit from modern amenities on board. These include foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, radium floor strips, and improved seating and berths. The trains also feature modern toilets with electro-pneumatic flushing.
Indian Railways has equipped the coaches with fire suppression systems and facilities for divyangjan passengers. Fast charging points and pantry cars will support long-distance travel comfort.
Officials said the Amrit Bharat Express reflected the railways’ focus on inclusive, reliable, and passenger-centric modernisation. The service aims to make comfortable long-distance travel accessible to the common passenger.
