BJP condemns Ramchander Rao arrest in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Ramchander Rao arrest triggered sharp condemnation from the Telangana BJP, with senior leaders accusing the state government of misusing police to curb political activity.

The party said police detained state president N Ramchander Rao when he prepared to travel to Banswada to support party workers and a BJP MLA. Leaders alleged that authorities later shifted him to Bollaram police station after taking him into custody.

BJP National Vice President and MP D K Aruna criticised the action and questioned whether visiting party legislators amounted to a crime. She accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of running a repressive regime and using police to block democratic expression. Moreover, she asked why the government felt threatened by a solidarity visit.

State spokesperson and media in-charge N V Subhash also condemned the Ramchander Rao arrest. He said Rao had planned a peaceful visit to denounce the recent attack on a BJP MLA and to stand by party cadres in Banswada.

Ramchander Rao arrest termed assault on democracy

Subhash described the Ramchander Rao arrest as a direct attack on democratic values by the Congress government. He alleged that the police action reflected a biased and high-handed approach. However, he asserted that arrests and house detentions would not weaken the party’s democratic struggle.

Party leaders maintained that the Congress government would have to answer to the people for what they termed unlawful steps. They reiterated that the BJP would continue to protest the detention and extend support to its workers in Banswada.
