DGCA grants aerodrome license to Noida International Airport

Noida: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted an aerodrome license to Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, enabling the facility to begin operations under the public-use category.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited developed the airport. The company operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. It is implementing the project through a public–private partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government and the Government of India.

The concession period began on October 1, 2021, and will continue for 40 years.

Officials confirmed that the airport supports all-weather operations. It includes a runway with orientation 10/28 that measures 3,900 metres in length and 45 metres in width.

Additionally, the airport uses an Instrument Landing System and an Aeronautical Ground Lighting system. These systems allow aircraft to operate safely throughout the day and night.

The facility also includes parking stands for 24 Code C aircraft and two Code D or F aircraft. Moreover, the airport operates with Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Category 9 capability.

Therefore, the airport can handle wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER.

Authorities are developing Noida International Airport in four phases along with a multi-modal cargo hub.

In the first phase, the airport will operate with one runway and one passenger terminal. As a result, it will handle around 12 million passengers each year.

However, once all phases are complete, the airport will handle up to 70 million passengers annually.

Consequently, the airport will emerge as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.

The project also supports the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s broader plan to strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem.

Over the past decade, India has expanded its aviation network significantly. The number of operational airports increased from 74 in 2014 to 164 today.

As a result, India has become the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world.

Furthermore, the government continues to expand aviation infrastructure by developing greenfield airports and upgrading existing facilities. The UDAN regional connectivity scheme also supports this effort.

Looking ahead, authorities plan to develop more than 400 airports across India by 2047. This expansion aims to improve connectivity, strengthen economic growth and support national integration.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu congratulated the Uttar Pradesh government for completing the project.

He added that the airport will improve connectivity for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, the new facility will boost tourism, attract investment and reduce congestion at existing airports in the region.
