MSDE care ecosystem session to focus on training 1.5 lakh caregivers

New Delhi: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will coordinate a breakout session on care ecosystem skilling as part of the post-Budget webinar on the theme “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas – Fulfilling Aspirations of People.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the post-Budget webinar for 2026-27 on March 9. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will lead the full-day event.

The breakout discussion, titled “Strengthening India’s Care Ecosystem: Skilling 1.5 Lakh Multiskilled Caregivers,” will focus on implementing a key announcement from the Union Budget 2026-27.

According to the Budget speech, the government plans to build a stronger care ecosystem covering geriatric and allied care services. It also plans to develop NSQF-aligned programmes to train multiskilled caregivers.

These programmes will combine core caregiving skills with allied training in wellness support, yoga, and the use of medical and assistive devices. The initiative aims to train 1.5 lakh caregivers during the coming year.

India’s skilling ecosystem already supports training through institutions such as NCVET, Sector Skill Councils, ITIs, and National Skill Training Institutes.

Flagship programmes including the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, PM National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, and Jan Shikshan Sansthan also support workforce development.

Care ecosystem skilling discussions to focus on standards and training

The care ecosystem skilling session will bring together experts from healthcare institutions, state governments, academia, and international organisations.

Participants will discuss priorities such as standardising caregiver qualifications and improving trainer capacity. The session will also examine ways to strengthen training infrastructure.

In addition, stakeholders will explore expanding apprenticeship opportunities in the care sector and aligning Indian skill standards with global benchmarks.

Officials said these steps could help meet India’s domestic care needs while opening global employment opportunities in the care economy.

Thousands of candidates have already trained for roles such as geriatric caregiver, home health aide, and general duty assistant.

Insights from the breakout discussions will be presented during the concluding session of the webinar.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary will deliver the closing remarks on behalf of the ministry and outline the way forward for strengthening the care economy workforce.
