KTR plans bill for Congress six guarantees legal status

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao announced plans to introduce a Private Member Bill seeking Congress six guarantees legal status in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.

He spoke to reporters after a joint orientation meeting of BRS MLAs and MLCs at Golconda Resort on Tuesday. According to him, the proposed bill aims to hold the Congress government accountable for its election promises.

KTR recalled that Congress leaders had promised legal backing for the guarantees during their first Cabinet meeting after assuming office. However, he said the government has not implemented that commitment even after two-and-a-half years.

The BRS leader argued that granting legal backing would make the welfare commitments enforceable. He said the guarantees cover several groups, including women, farmers, students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

KTR also appealed to Congress legislators to support the bill. According to him, supporting the proposal would show their commitment to promises made to the people.

Assembly debate likely on guarantees

KTR said the current Assembly session is important because the government is presenting its third budget. Meanwhile, nearly half of its tenure has already passed. Therefore, he said the government must clarify its stand on implementing the guarantees.

He also criticised the government for not forming key Assembly committees. In addition, he pointed out that the Deputy Speaker’s post remains vacant. According to him, these delays show a lack of respect for legislative institutions.

KTR further alleged that the government presented misleading financial figures in the Assembly. He said BRS legislators would counter those claims with factual data during the session.

The BRS leader also questioned welfare allocations in the previous budget. He alleged that funds for Dalits, Tribals, Backward Classes and minorities were inadequate.

At the same time, he criticised the government’s focus on the Musi River project. He argued that authorities claim there are no funds for welfare schemes while prioritising other projects.

Targeting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, KTR urged the government to prioritise farmers’ welfare. He also asked it to continue schemes such as Rythu Bandhu.

KTR further challenged the government on housing construction. He said he would resign if the government proves it built even a single new house in the last two-and-a-half years.

According to him, authorities are repainting projects built during the previous BRS government and presenting them as new.
