Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana LPG supply remained stable and domestic consumers faced no shortage despite global concerns linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The minister made the statement during a high-level video conference held from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Friday. The meeting reviewed the state’s liquefied petroleum gas supply situation.
The conference included the Chief Secretary, district collectors, senior Civil Supplies officials, Superintendents of Police, police commissioners and representatives of oil marketing companies.
Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to ensure adequate stock and timely deliveries. He also instructed departments to coordinate closely and prevent hoarding.
In addition, the minister called for stronger action against misinformation circulating on social media. He urged citizens to avoid panic bookings triggered by unverified rumours.
Officials reported that Telangana LPG supply currently stood at around 10,611 metric tonnes in stock. This quantity equals nearly 6.97 lakh cylinders.
Authorities said the stock level was sufficient to meet household demand across the state.
Telangana LPG supply monitoring tightened
Across Telangana, about 12.9 million active domestic LPG connections receive services through 810 distributors. The daily requirement in the state is around 2.5 lakh cylinders.
Officials said domestic users account for nearly 86 percent of consumption, while commercial users consume around 14 percent.
Authorities also confirmed that no bottling plant in the state had faced disruptions. As a result, more than 90 percent of domestic demand continues to be met consistently.
During the meeting, officials decided to revise booking intervals to prevent diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders.
The government aligned with national guidelines and fixed the minimum booking gap at 25 days for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers.
Earlier, customers could place bookings after shorter intervals. Officials said the revised schedule better reflects normal household consumption patterns.
According to the government, a typical LPG cylinder lasts between 25 and 45 days depending on family size and usage.
Officials said the revised rule will reduce the chances of cylinders being diverted to hotels, restaurants or the black market.
Telangana LPG supply enforcement strengthened
The minister also announced the formation of coordination committees at state and district levels to monitor LPG distribution.
At the state level, the Chief Secretary will lead the LPG supply coordination committee to track stock and compliance.
District-level committees headed by collectors will review supply daily and address local grievances quickly.
These committees include officials from Civil Supplies, police and oil marketing companies to ensure smooth coordination.
Authorities also prioritised uninterrupted LPG supply to hospitals, schools, orphanages and old age homes.
Meanwhile, officials highlighted the OTP-based delivery verification system used for cylinder distribution.
Under this system, delivery personnel complete the handover only after the consumer shares a one-time password received on their registered mobile number.
Officials said this method significantly reduces the risk of cylinders reaching unauthorised persons.
However, the minister directed the Civil Supplies department to examine complaints related to post-delivery transfers.
He also ordered stricter inspections at dealerships and enforcement against misuse.
Authorities registered several cases under the Essential Commodities Act for hoarding, diversion and black marketing.
Uttam Kumar Reddy asked district collectors and police officials to conduct surprise inspections and maintain vigilance.
He warned that officials will cancel licences in serious cases involving misuse.
The minister also appealed to citizens to rely only on official information sources for updates.
He said the government remains committed to ensuring adequate LPG availability for households across Telangana.
