New Delhi: PharmaMed 2026 India has positioned the country as a growing global pharmaceutical powerhouse, with a strong focus on innovation and healthcare equity. The event, held in New Delhi, brought together policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of India’s pharma sector.
Organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the conference focused on the theme of accessible healthcare for all.
Focus on healthcare equity and innovation
Dr. Vinod K. Paul emphasised that medicines form a major part of out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Therefore, the pharmaceutical sector plays a crucial role in ensuring affordability and financial protection.
He also highlighted the importance of research, development, and innovation. According to him, aligning India’s scientific capabilities with strong R&D will help the country lead global pharma advancements.
Policy push and infrastructure expansion
Satyaprakash T. L. underlined key policy priorities, including faster research-to-market timelines and the development of biological ecosystems.
Moreover, plans to establish 1,000 clinical trial sites are expected to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. These steps will strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem significantly.
Industry calls for value-driven growth
From an industry perspective, Abhay Kumar Srivastava stressed the need to shift from volume-driven to value-driven growth.
He also highlighted the importance of backward integration to improve supply chain resilience and reduce dependence on imports. As a result, collaboration among stakeholders becomes essential.
Global collaboration and regulatory focus
Gregory Smith noted that India hosts over 600 FDA-registered manufacturing facilities. This reflects the country’s critical role in global pharmaceutical supply chains.
In addition, Dr. A. Visala emphasised sustainable innovation and the need to reduce reliance on imported APIs. She also highlighted advancements in areas like cell and gene therapies.
Strengthening supply chains and partnerships
PharmaMed 2026 India focused on key priorities such as supply chain resilience, self-reliance in APIs and Key Starting Materials (KSMs), and public-private partnerships.
Furthermore, the event highlighted the role of policy support and industry-academia collaboration in driving innovation. These efforts align with India’s broader vision of becoming a global healthcare leader.
