Metro debt burden row erupts as KTR targets Revanth

Hyderabad: BRS leader K T Rama Rao alleged a metro debt burden of ₹15,000 crore, accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of shifting liabilities onto the public.

Speaking on Sunday, KTR claimed the Congress government was forcing the state to take over debts linked to Larsen & Toubro. He also alleged that the Chief Minister presented misleading figures in the Assembly regarding the Metro project.

Meanwhile, BRS legislators staged protests demanding a House Committee probe into alleged illegal mining linked to Raghava Constructions. Party MLAs and MLCs gathered at Gun Park before marching to the Assembly, where KTR and T Harish Rao joined them.

KTR said the previous YSR government had leased 280 acres for the Metro project. However, he stressed that the land remained government property and was never sold. He criticised the Chief Minister for claiming that the land had been purchased from a private operator.

Metro debt burden raises land and policy concerns

The BRS leader alleged that vested interests were trying to take control of the 280 acres tied to the project. He questioned why the Centre would object if the Metro remained under private management.

In addition, he pointed out that the Centre had earlier supported the project without raising concerns. Therefore, he argued that the current stance appeared inconsistent.

KTR accused the Chief Minister of making conflicting statements about the project structure. According to him, the government’s decision on the takeover could expose the state to financial risks.

He warned that the metro debt burden could have long-term consequences for Telangana’s finances. Moreover, he urged the government to review the decision and ensure transparency in handling public assets.

Overall, the controversy has intensified tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS over infrastructure and financial decisions.
