Indian Railways summer special trains to ease travel rush

New Delhi: Summer special trains were expanded by Indian Railways, which approved 18,262 trips to handle increased passenger demand during the peak travel season.

The Railways said 908 special trains would run between April 15 and July 15, 2026. These services aim to ensure smooth travel during vacations and high-demand months. Out of these, 660 trains have already been notified, covering 11,294 trips for advance booking.

Moreover, the move reflects a proactive plan to reduce waitlists and improve passenger convenience. Officials said the additional services would strengthen connectivity across major regions.

Central Railway, East Central Railway and North Western Railway emerged as top zones with the highest number of trips. These zones recorded 3,082, 2,711 and 2,245 trips respectively.

South Central Railway approved 124 trains with 1,184 trips. However, only 76 trains with 324 trips have been notified so far. Western Railway approved 106 trains with 2,078 trips, of which 92 trains covering 1,667 trips are notified.

In addition, North Western Railway approved 76 trains with 2,245 trips. Out of these, 62 trains with 1,878 trips are operationally notified. Northern Railway approved 76 trains with 2,090 trips, while 56 trains with 1,535 trips are notified.

Meanwhile, Central Railway approved 74 trains with 3,082 trips. Of these, 70 trains covering 2,238 trips are already notified. Southern Railway approved 72 trains with 558 trips, with 38 trains covering 133 trips notified.

Therefore, Indian Railways said the summer special trains would help manage seasonal rush efficiently. The services are expected to ensure smoother journeys for millions of passengers.
