Fuel supply update: Govt assures stability amid West Asia crisis

New Delhi: The Centre issued a fuel supply update assuring stable availability of LPG, petrol and diesel despite the evolving West Asia situation.

Officials shared the update during a media briefing at the National Media Centre. They said coordinated efforts were underway to maintain supply and prevent disruptions.

According to the fuel supply update, over 17.83 lakh 5 kg FTL cylinders were sold since 1 April. In addition, more than 81,000 cylinders were sold in a single day, reflecting steady distribution.

Authorities urged citizens to avoid panic buying. Instead, they asked consumers to rely on official updates and use digital booking systems for LPG.

Fuel supply update highlights LPG and PNG expansion

The government maintained full supply to domestic LPG, PNG and CNG sectors. Moreover, it prioritised hospitals, education, and key industries for commercial LPG distribution.

Officials said PNG expansion gained pace across states. Since March, about 5.27 lakh connections were activated, while infrastructure for 2.60 lakh more connections was completed. As a result, total connections reached 7.87 lakh, with 5.97 lakh new registrations.

Meanwhile, enforcement teams conducted over 2,300 raids to curb hoarding and black marketing. Oil companies also penalised 307 distributors and suspended 70 agencies to ensure compliance.

The government increased refinery output and maintained adequate crude stocks. At the same time, retail fuel outlets continued normal operations without price changes.

In addition, authorities expanded kerosene allocation and promoted alternate fuels like PNG and electric cooking options. These steps aimed to reduce pressure on LPG demand.

On the maritime front, officials confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the Gulf region remained safe. Port operations across India also continued without congestion.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it was closely monitoring developments. It maintained contact with Indian missions and ensured support for citizens in the region.

Flight operations also improved gradually. Since 28 February, around 12.38 lakh passengers travelled from the region to India, indicating stabilisation in connectivity.

The government said it would continue monitoring the situation and take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted supply and public safety.
