New Delhi: The Government of India on Tuesday assured fuel supply stability, stating that petrol, diesel, and LPG remain adequately available despite the evolving situation in West Asia.
Officials shared updates during an inter-ministerial briefing at the National Media Centre. Representatives from petroleum, shipping, and external affairs ministries outlined measures to maintain supply and stability.
Authorities said more than 50.8 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on April 28. In addition, over 73,000 five-kg free trade LPG cylinders reached consumers on the same day.
Retail prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged across the country. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that all fuel outlets continued normal operations with sufficient stock.
Fuel supply stability backed by monitoring and enforcement
The government advised citizens to avoid panic buying and rely on official information. It also urged people to conserve energy and use alternative fuels where possible.
Officials said supply to domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG sectors continued at 100%. Moreover, priority allocation was given to hospitals and essential industries.
Authorities increased refinery output and adjusted supply systems to meet demand. At the same time, they expanded PNG connections and promoted cleaner fuel adoption.
Enforcement agencies conducted over 2,200 raids to curb hoarding and black marketing. They also imposed penalties on several LPG distributors and suspended some licences.
Auto LPG sales rose sharply during April, reaching an average of 353 metric tonnes per day. This marked a significant increase compared to earlier months.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reviewed steps to ensure smooth maritime operations. Officials confirmed that port activities remained normal without congestion.
The Ministry of External Affairs said it continued to assist Indian nationals in the region. So far, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has helped 2,464 citizens leave Iran through land routes.
Officials said the government would continue close monitoring of the situation. They added that coordinated efforts would ensure uninterrupted supply and public safety.
