Hyderabad: Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy announced PJR awards to honour contributions to the labour sector, while extending financial support to gig workers’ families on May Day.
He said the government would institute the P. Janardhan Reddy Lifetime Achievement Awards. These awards will recognise individuals who made outstanding contributions to labour welfare.
The Minister stated that the awards will be presented annually on May Day. Moreover, he said the initiative honours the legacy of late P. Janardhan Reddy.
Officials acted on a proposal submitted by former MLC Ramulu Nayak. Therefore, the government directed the Labour Commissioner to frame guidelines and eligibility criteria.
PJR awards initiative accompanied by worker welfare measures
On the occasion, the Minister presented Shrama Shakti Awards to trade union leaders, workers and management representatives. These awards recognised organisations that ensured labour welfare and followed labour laws.
More than 100 awardees received honours during the event. In addition, they thanked the government for recognising their contributions.
The Minister also handed over ₹5 lakh each to families of two deceased gig workers. The beneficiaries included delivery workers Garlapati Shashidhar Reddy and Dharavath Mahesh.
He said the assistance fulfilled an assurance made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Furthermore, he appreciated union leader Shaik Salauddin for raising the issue.
During the event, Vivek Venkatswamy released a booklet on departmental achievements. The publication outlined initiatives in labour, employment, training, factories and boilers.
He said the report also detailed future priorities and policy directions. Therefore, the government aims to strengthen labour welfare systems in the coming years.
