Government reassures fuel supply amid West Asia developments

New Delhi: The Union government issued a fuel supply reassurance, stating that petrol, diesel and LPG availability remains stable despite the evolving situation in West Asia.

Officials conveyed this during an inter-ministerial media briefing held at the National Media Centre. They urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely on official updates for accurate information.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said authorities ensured uninterrupted supply across domestic LPG, PNG and CNG segments. It added that all retail fuel outlets were operating normally and no shortages were reported.

Moreover, the government highlighted that delivery authentication systems now cover about 95% of LPG deliveries, which helps prevent diversion. Online booking of LPG cylinders also reached nearly 99%, indicating steady consumer access.

Authorities advised citizens to conserve energy and consider alternate fuels such as PNG and electric cooking options. They also asked consumers to avoid visiting distributors and instead use digital platforms for bookings.

Fuel supply reassurance backed by enforcement and monitoring

The government said enforcement agencies conducted over 2,100 raids to curb hoarding and black marketing. Additionally, oil marketing companies penalised 366 LPG distributors and suspended 75 agencies for violations.

Officials stated that domestic LPG supply remained prioritised, with no reports of dry-outs at distribution points. In the last two days, more than 87 lakh cylinders were delivered against bookings of around 88 lakh.

Further, the government increased commercial LPG allocation to about 70% of pre-crisis levels while prioritising critical sectors such as hospitals and industry. It also doubled the supply of 5 kg cylinders for migrant workers.

To support industries, authorities allocated 1,120 metric tonnes per day of LPG-derived inputs for pharmaceutical, chemical and paint sectors. Refineries also continued operating at high capacity with adequate crude stocks.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the region remained safe, with no incidents reported in the past 48 hours. Port operations across India continued without disruption.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Indian missions were assisting citizens in the region. It confirmed that 2,520 Indians were moved out of Iran through land routes with embassy support.

Officials reiterated that coordinated efforts with states, strict monitoring and public cooperation would ensure continued stability in fuel supply and essential services.
