NEET computer-based exam to begin from next year: Pradhan

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the NEET computer-based exam format would begin from next year. He said the Centre decided to shift NEET from the current paper-based system to an online examination model.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, the Minister said competitive examinations required a stronger computer-based system. His remarks came amid concerns over alleged paper leaks and cancellation of examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency.

Lakhs of students had expressed anxiety over reported irregularities in competitive examinations. The Centre later decided to implement recommendations made by the Radhakrishnan Committee to improve the examination process.

NEET computer-based exam linked to anti-malpractice measures

Pradhan said authorities identified weaknesses in the chain of command during the examination process. However, he assured students that corrective measures were underway to prevent future irregularities.

The Minister described the issue as a prolonged fight against the education mafia in the country. He said the Central Bureau of Investigation had launched a detailed multi-level investigation into the breach.

According to Pradhan, investigators would identify how miscreants compromised the examination system. He added that government agencies would strengthen safeguards in future competitive examinations.

The Minister also announced that the National Testing Agency would conduct NEET re-examinations on June 21. Candidates will receive admit cards by June 14.

Students will also get a one-week window to choose their preferred examination city. In addition, authorities will provide 15 extra minutes for candidates to fill OMR sheet details.

The National Testing Agency also decided to refund examination fees to affected candidates. Officials confirmed that students would not pay any additional fee for the re-examination process.
