Telangana launches Rs.25,000 crore plan for paddy procurement

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has launched a Rs.25,000 crore initiative to procure 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this season, including rain-soaked grain, in a move aimed at protecting farmers from losses caused by erratic weather.

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced the paddy procurement drive during his inspection of a procurement centre at Gaddipalli village in Suryapet district. He said the government would ensure that every farmer received fair compensation and that no one suffered due to crop damage.

“This government stands with farmers in every situation. We will purchase soaked paddy without hesitation,” he said.

Telangana records highest paddy procurement in the country

According to Reddy, Telangana has achieved the highest paddy procurement in the country’s history since Independence. He credited the success to farmer-oriented schemes and transparent administration.

Farmers are receiving payments within 48 hours of procurement, and data updates are completed within the same timeframe. The state is also extending bonuses in addition to the Minimum Support Price. Officials and public representatives are monitoring the process to maintain accountability.

Infrastructure, education, and rural growth

The Minister laid the foundation for a two-lane road worth Rs.8.28 crore to connect Gaddipalli to the proposed Young India Integrated Residential School, which will be built at a cost of Rs.250 crore. The school is part of a plan to establish modern residential institutions for marginalised communities in all Assembly constituencies.

At Ponugodu Cheruvu, Reddy also launched a fish seed distribution initiative to promote aquaculture and enhance rural livelihoods. Fish seed is being supplied free of cost to suitable public water bodies to boost inland fish production and create local employment.

Reddy concluded that these efforts would transform Huzurnagar into a model constituency through sustained investment in agriculture, education, and infrastructure.
