Owaisi seeks postponement of Osmania University exams on Bakrid

Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged the Telangana government to postpone Osmania University exams scheduled on May 28 as the date coincides with Bakrid celebrations.

Owaisi appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state Chief Secretary to shift the examinations to another date. He said conducting examinations on Eid al-Adha could place students observing the festival at a disadvantage.

According to Owaisi, Osmania University scheduled several BA, BCom, and BSc examinations on May 28. The scheduled papers include BCom fourth semester Business Statistics and BCom sixth semester Accounting Standards and Corporate Governance examinations.

The university also fixed BSc Honours fourth semester Computer Science (Big Data) and BSc Honours sixth semester Optimization Techniques examinations on the same day. Officials further scheduled BSc Biomedical Science fourth semester and BA (CBCS) sixth semester Mathematics examinations during the festival period.

Osmania University exams schedule draws objections from students

In addition, the university planned the BSW (CBCS) fourth semester Social Work Methodology III examination on May 28. Owaisi said students celebrating Bakrid could face difficulties if authorities continued with the existing timetable.

The Hyderabad MP expressed hope that university officials and the Telangana government would reconsider the examination schedule and announce alternative dates. He stressed that students should not face inconvenience during important religious celebrations.

The issue triggered discussion among students and parents after details of the examination timetable emerged. Several students reportedly expressed concern over balancing festival celebrations and examination preparations on the same day.

Bakrid, also known as Eid al-Adha, is one of the major festivals observed by Muslims across the country. The festival involves religious prayers, family gatherings, and community celebrations.

Educational institutions in Telangana have previously revised schedules on certain occasions to avoid clashes with major public festivals and events. However, university authorities have not yet announced any changes to the existing examination timetable.

Students are now awaiting a response from Osmania University and the state government regarding the request raised by Owaisi.
