New Delhi: India and the United States advanced negotiations on a proposed trade agreement after senior officials held four days of discussions in New Delhi from June 1 to June 4.
A delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), led by the Chief Negotiator, visited India to continue discussions on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
The talks followed a joint statement issued by both countries on February 7, 2026. In that statement, India and the United States agreed on a framework for an interim agreement aimed at promoting reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.
Officials discussed a wide range of issues during the meetings. The agenda included trade in goods, non-tariff measures, customs procedures, trade facilitation and economic security alignment.
Both sides also reviewed other areas of mutual interest linked to the broader trade partnership.
