Transport enforcement drive intensified across Telangana

Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered officials to strengthen the Transport enforcement drive across Telangana and take strict action against vehicles violating transport regulations.

During a review meeting with Transport Department officials at the Secretariat, the minister directed authorities to conduct extensive inspections statewide. He instructed teams to focus on overloaded vehicles, vehicles with unpaid quarterly taxes and those operating without valid fitness certificates.

The minister also authorised officials to seize vehicles whenever they find serious violations. Moreover, he asked enforcement personnel to increase field inspections and improve compliance with transport rules.

Ponnam Prabhakar said the government remains committed to strengthening enforcement after the abolition of transport check posts. Therefore, he directed officials to make better use of available manpower and expand inspection activities across the state.

Transport enforcement drive expands with special squads

As part of the initiative, the department will deploy 10 special enforcement teams across the erstwhile districts. In addition, two state-level special squads will conduct intensified inspections in different regions.

The minister said these teams would help identify violators and improve adherence to transport regulations. Furthermore, the Transport enforcement drive aims to detect vehicles operating without proper documentation and safety clearances.

Ponnam Prabhakar also placed special emphasis on student safety. He directed officials to ensure that school buses and mini-vans possess valid fitness certificates before transporting students.

The minister instructed enforcement teams to seize vehicles carrying students beyond permitted capacity. Additionally, officials must initiate strict action against educational institutions operating school vehicles without valid certification.

He said the government would not compromise on student safety. Therefore, authorities will maintain continuous monitoring of school transport services throughout Telangana.
