Hyderabad: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the DRDO weapon complex at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) under the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad on Thursday.
He praised DRDO’s Missile Systems and Strategic Systems Cluster for strengthening India’s defence technology, strategic independence and national security.
Rajnath Singh said the successful performance of indigenous missile systems during Operation Sindoor reflected the growing capabilities of India’s defence research ecosystem.
He stated that systems such as Akash and BrahMos demonstrated India’s ability to compete in advanced global defence technologies.
DRDO weapon complex strengthens missile development
The Defence Minister highlighted the importance of strong air defence systems in modern warfare. Moreover, he referred to Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a planned multi-layer missile defence system for India.
He said the proposed system would protect military bases, critical infrastructure and important civilian installations. Additionally, the three-layer security architecture would strengthen the country’s defensive preparedness.
Rajnath Singh stressed that resilience and deterrence remain essential as warfare continues to evolve through artificial intelligence, hypersonic weapons, autonomous platforms and advanced sensors.
He said DRDO must not only address present-day challenges but also anticipate future technological requirements.
Furthermore, he urged DRDO, defence services and industries to work together to accelerate production of indigenous systems and ensure timely availability of modern equipment.
The Defence Minister emphasised the need to reduce development-to-production timelines, increase indigenous content and create systems that can be manufactured quickly during emergencies.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts over the last 12 years to promote research, innovation and collaboration among DRDO laboratories, public sector units, private companies, start-ups, MSMEs and academic institutions.
Rajnath Singh later visited an exhibition showcasing advanced defence technologies, indigenous missile platforms and modern weapon systems developed by DRDO.
