Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar criticised the proposed TIMS Sanathnagar medical tourism initiative, alleging that the Telangana government was focusing on international patients instead of addressing healthcare needs of local residents.
He said poor and middle-class families continued to face difficulties in accessing quality treatment at government hospitals. Therefore, he argued that authorities should strengthen existing healthcare services before promoting medical tourism.
Dasoju described TIMS Sanathnagar as a public healthcare institution created to provide world-class treatment free of cost to ordinary citizens. Moreover, he questioned the proposal to establish an international medical tourism block inside the hospital campus.
TIMS Sanathnagar medical tourism should not affect public healthcare
The BRS leader alleged that the government was attempting to commercialise a hospital built for public welfare. He also questioned the reported decision to allocate medical resources for foreign patients.
Furthermore, Dasoju criticised the formation of a committee to examine medical tourism initiatives. According to him, the government should first resolve shortcomings in the healthcare system.
He demanded improvements in hospital infrastructure, staff availability and treatment facilities. In addition, he claimed that authorities should ensure equal access to healthcare for Telangana residents.
Dasoju alleged that the administration was giving importance to revenue-driven projects over public welfare. However, he maintained that medical tourism proposals could be considered only after government hospitals provide comprehensive healthcare services to all local patients.
The BRS leader reiterated that the primary responsibility of public hospitals was to serve people of Telangana. Therefore, he urged the government to prioritise citizens’ healthcare requirements before implementing any tourism-oriented medical projects.
