Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday criticised the Congress government over the delay in securing Metro phase-II approval from the Centre. He alleged that the delay exposed the state government’s inability to protect Telangana’s interests and advance major infrastructure projects.
KTR criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and claimed that his repeated visits to New Delhi had not helped secure clearance for the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion. He said several other states received approvals for their metro projects during the same period.
According to KTR, cities such as Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam moved ahead with their metro projects while Hyderabad continued to await a decision. He said the government should explain the reasons for the continued delay.
KTR raises questions over Metro phase-II approval delay
KTR said Hyderabad required rapid expansion of its metro network to address growing transportation needs. Moreover, he alleged that the Chief Minister failed to effectively present Telangana’s concerns before the Union government.
He also accused the Congress government of shifting responsibility onto the opposition instead of solving the issue. He said political allegations would not improve Hyderabad’s urban transport system.
Demanding accountability, KTR asked the Chief Minister to disclose the current status of the proposal and future plans for mobility projects. He questioned why important infrastructure projects were not receiving timely approvals and financial assistance.
KTR stated that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao played a major role in implementing the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. He maintained that the proposed expansion remained vital for Hyderabad’s future growth and better public transportation.
