New Delhi: A fuel availability update issued by the Centre said petrol, diesel, LPG and natural gas supplies remain stable despite the evolving situation in West Asia. Officials also outlined measures to protect energy security and maintain maritime operations.
During an inter-ministerial media interaction at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ports, Shipping and Waterways provided updates on fuel availability, LPG supplies and shipping operations.
Officials said all refineries are operating at high capacity and maintaining adequate crude inventories. Moreover, the government has increased domestic LPG production to support household consumption.
To protect consumers from rising global crude prices, the Centre reduced excise duties on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre. In addition, authorities increased export levies on diesel and aviation turbine fuel to strengthen domestic availability.
The government also reported adequate stocks of petrol and diesel at retail outlets. Therefore, citizens were advised not to engage in panic buying.
West Asia briefing focuses on LPG and maritime operations
Officials said domestic LPG, PNG and CNG supplies continue at full levels. Furthermore, LPG supplies to households remain the top priority.
In the last three days, oil companies delivered about 1.47 crore LPG cylinders against bookings of around 1.36 crore cylinders. At the same time, no LPG distributorship reported stock depletion.
The government said it has expanded PNG infrastructure significantly since March 2026. So far, authorities have gasified about 10.02 lakh PNG connections and created infrastructure for another 3.22 lakh connections. In addition, around 9.94 lakh consumers have registered for new connections.
Officials also highlighted enforcement measures against hoarding and black marketing. During the last three days, authorities registered 21 FIRs, arrested six people and seized 1,056 LPG cylinders across the country.
On maritime operations, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said the LNG carrier DISHA safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on June 15. The vessel is carrying about 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG and is expected to berth at Dahej on June 19.
The Ministry also said port operations remain normal across India. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Shipping has facilitated the safe repatriation of more than 3,639 Indian seafarers, including 47 during the last 72 hours.
Officials urged citizens to rely on verified information and conserve energy wherever possible. They added that the government continues to monitor the situation closely and maintain uninterrupted supplies of essential fuels.
