New Delhi: DRDO handed over the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) certificate for the indigenous Netra AEW&C system to the Indian Air Force on June 25, marking a major milestone in India’s defence self-reliance efforts.
The Netra AEW&C system enhances airborne surveillance, situational awareness and battle management capabilities. DRDO developed the platform in close collaboration with the IAF and industry partners. The system had received Initial Operational Clearance in 2017.
Deputy Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti presided over the ceremony in Bengaluru. Former Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, former DRDO Chairman Dr S Christopher, senior serving and retired officers, DRDO scientists and industry representatives attended the event.
Air Marshal Bharti praised the operational performance and reliability of the system during Operation Sindoor and the Balakot strikes. He said indigenous technologies allow the armed forces to quickly adapt systems to changing battlefield requirements through modifications and upgrades.
The officer also highlighted the strong partnership among DRDO, the IAF and industry stakeholders. According to him, this collaboration played a crucial role in the programme’s success.

Distinguished Scientist Dr BK Das noted that cooperation among stakeholders remained the foundation of the programme. He described Netra AEW&C as a significant example of self-reliance and India’s vision of becoming a developed nation.
During the event, officials honoured organisations and units that contributed to the development and operational deployment of the platform. Their efforts helped transform the project from a concept into an operational system.
The successful induction of Netra AEW&C highlights DRDO’s commitment to innovation, indigenisation and capability enhancement for the armed forces. Moreover, the programme demonstrates effective cooperation between users, scientists and defence production agencies.
