Surat: A DRI cocaine seizure in Surat led to the recovery of 2 kg of cocaine and the arrest of one person as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking networks across India.
Officials booked the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The operation formed part of the DRI’s sustained efforts to dismantle organised narcotics supply chains.
Since May 2026, the DRI has conducted coordinated operations at airports, railway stations, courier terminals and highways in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Kochi and Ahmedabad. As a result, officials seized around 26 kg of cocaine and arrested 22 people, including 14 foreign nationals.
Investigators found that traffickers used several methods to smuggle cocaine. They concealed the drug inside swallowed capsules, household goods, edible items, fabrics and baggage to avoid detection.
DRI cocaine seizure targets organised drug networks
The DRI said its coordinated operations continue to target organised syndicates involved in trafficking narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Moreover, the agency said these operations support the Government of India’s vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
The announcement coincided with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on June 26. The United Nations established the day in 1987 to strengthen global action against substance abuse and illegal drug trafficking.
The DRI reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement efforts and disrupting drug trafficking networks through intelligence-based operations across the country.
