Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Monday assured continued support for KTR hamali workers welfare while accusing the Congress government of neglecting farmers and labourers during the 18th Hamali Union conference at Mallapur.
Addressing the gathering, KTR said the BRS would continue to resolve the problems faced by hamali workers. Former minister V. Srinivas Goud, MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy, senior BRS leader Kyama Mallesh, union leaders and workers attended the programme.
KTR alleged that the Congress government had failed to operate pumps at the Kannepalli Pump House despite adequate water availability. He claimed the government was delaying water releases to farmers for political reasons even though sufficient Godavari water was available for irrigation.
He further alleged that the delayed irrigation had caused hardship to farmers. He also claimed land prices had fallen after the Congress assumed office. According to him, the government was filing cases against BRS leaders because they questioned public issues.
KTR hamali workers welfare remains priority
KTR said the previous BRS government had increased hamali wage rates from ₹8 to ₹26. He added that the government had revised wages every two years instead of every five years. He assured workers that the BRS would continue supporting their welfare, including health security and labour-related issues.
Moreover, KTR claimed the Kaleshwaram project had expanded cultivation and strengthened agricultural production during the previous BRS government. He alleged the present government was delaying water releases because it would later have to supply fertilisers, procure crops and pay bonuses to farmers.
Finally, KTR expressed confidence that the BRS would return to power. He urged party workers and hamali labourers to remain united. He also thanked the Hamali Union for inviting him to its 18th conference and promised to continue addressing workers’ grievances.
