New Delhi: Union Cabinet on Friday approved the continuation of the PM-KISAN Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31. It sanctioned a financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore for the programme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Cabinet meeting.
The decision will continue direct income support for eligible landholding farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. Each eligible family will receive ₹6,000 every year in three equal instalments.
Moreover, the government said the PM-KISAN Scheme supports agricultural investment and strengthens rural livelihoods. It added that Aadhaar authentication and digital verification ensure transparency and accountability.
The scheme, launched in February 2019, has transferred more than ₹4.47 lakh crore through 23 instalments. During the 23rd instalment, over 9.49 crore farmers received more than ₹18,984 crore.
PM-KISAN Scheme boosts farm investment
According to the government, the scheme helped farmers buy seeds, fertilisers, irrigation equipment and machinery. As a result, many beneficiaries reduced their dependence on informal credit and improved their financial stability.
The government also highlighted findings from the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office of NITI Aayog. More than 92% of beneficiaries said they used the assistance for agricultural activities. In addition, around 85% reported higher farm income and lower dependence on informal borrowing.
Meanwhile, the government said foodgrain production grew significantly between 2020-21 and 2025-26. Cultivated area increased by about 9.65%. Productivity rose by around 10.53%. Total foodgrain production also grew by nearly 21.18%.
Furthermore, the government said women farmers received more than ₹1.06 lakh crore under the scheme. Nearly one in four beneficiaries is a woman farmer.
Finally, the Cabinet said the continued PM-KISAN Scheme will improve farm productivity, reduce agricultural risks and strengthen the rural economy. It added that the programme remains a key pillar of the government’s farmer welfare strategy.
