Hyderabad: Bandi Sanjay Kumar, speaking on the issue, said Bandi Sanjay on Kaleshwaram raises serious questions about Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s shifting stance on the irrigation project.
Addressing a gathering in Karimnagar, he noted that Revanth Reddy had earlier termed the project ineffective but now appeared to have changed his position. He questioned why earlier allegations of a ₹1 lakh crore scam were later reduced to around ₹9,000 crore in a letter to the CBI, asking what basis existed for demanding a probe without consistent figures.
Cost concerns and corruption allegations raised
The BJP leader also highlighted discrepancies in procurement costs. He claimed that each motor used in the lift irrigation system costs around ₹300 crore, yet nearly ₹1,600 crore was allegedly spent on sourcing them from abroad.
He demanded that investigating agencies disclose the full extent of alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, stressing that transparency is essential for public trust.
Accountability questions in Telangana politics
He further questioned whether any action had been taken against members of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s family. According to him, the project had become a funding source for both BRS and Congress.
Sanjay also criticised what he described as selective political alignments, saying accountability must apply equally across parties.
Remarks extend to national political issues
On national matters, he criticised the Congress over delays in the women’s reservation bill. He argued that such delays harm women’s representation and empowerment.
Additionally, he questioned whether elevating leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi alone would ensure meaningful progress for women.
Public response and political debate
Concluding his remarks, he said public dissatisfaction is increasing over political rhetoric and governance. He added that inconsistencies in leadership positions are being closely watched by voters.
Overall, the issue continues to fuel political debate in Telangana, with questions being raised over transparency, accountability and governance in major infrastructure projects.
