Hyderabad: Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari assured support to the Sagara community during Bhagiratha Jayanti celebrations organised by the Backward Classes Welfare Department.
They paid floral tributes to Maharshi Bhagiratha and inaugurated the Bhagiratha Jayanti celebrations by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Several leaders attended the programme, including MP Eatala Rajender, BC Association leader Jajula Srinivas Goud, and senior officials from the department.
Addressing the gathering, Ponnam Prabhakar extended greetings on Bhagiratha Jayanti celebrations and urged the community to focus on achieving tangible outcomes. He said success required sustained “Bhagiratha efforts” rather than repeated demands.
He directed the Principal Secretary to conduct a review meeting on issues concerning the community. Moreover, he assured that the government would take steps to resolve them. He added that the administration was working beyond political differences to address concerns of weaker sections.
Welfare focus shapes Bhagiratha Jayanti celebrations
The minister said efforts were underway to implement 42% reservations for weaker sections. He added that a caste survey had been completed, with detailed population and economic data available on the official website.
He stressed the importance of higher education for long-term development. Therefore, he urged youth from the Sagara community to pursue advanced studies and improve economic prospects.
In addition, he reaffirmed continued support for the community. He said elected representatives such as Sarpanchs and Municipal Chairpersons would receive administrative and political backing.
BC Welfare Department Secretary Balamayadevi, BC Corporation Managing Director Mallayya Battu, Alok Kumar, and members of the Sagara community were also present.
