Bhujangasana record set as Yoga Mahotsav marks IDY 2026 countdown

Hyderabad: Over 6,000 participants set a Bhujangasana record at Yoga Mahotsav in Hyderabad, marking the 50-day countdown to International Day of Yoga 2026.

The event took place at Kanha Shanti Vanam and entered the Asia Book of Records for the largest simultaneous performance of the asana. It was organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy attended the programme and highlighted yoga’s role in nation-building. He said yoga offered a practical solution to stress and unhealthy lifestyles. Moreover, he added that Hyderabad should emerge as a global hub for yoga and wellness.

Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav also addressed the gathering. He said yoga had evolved into a global movement promoting physical and mental well-being. In addition, he noted that yoga strengthened India’s identity as a centre for wellness and healthcare.

Bhujangasana record highlights global participation at Yoga Mahotsav

More than 20 countries took part in the event, reflecting yoga’s growing global reach. Participants included representatives from nations such as the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

The Ministry of Ayush also promoted the Yoga 365 campaign during the event. The initiative encourages citizens to practise yoga daily through a 100-day training programme leading to Yog Mitra certification.

Furthermore, officials announced that the next Yoga Mahotsav will be held in Khajuraho to mark the 25-day countdown to IDY 2026. The Hyderabad event also featured the Common Yoga Protocol session and a Heartfulness meditation led by Daaji.

Officials said the programme marked a key step in building momentum for International Day of Yoga 2026, which will be observed on June 21.
