Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the BRS of running a malicious campaign against BJP leaders due to fear over ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project and Formula E-Race case.
Addressing a preparatory meeting at the BJP state headquarters in Hyderabad, Ramchander Rao alleged that the BRS spent crores of rupees on posters, social media campaigns, and sections of the media to defame the BJP and its leaders.
The BJP leader defended Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and said seeking anticipatory bail was a legal right. Therefore, he argued that it could not be described as “fleeing”.
Ramchander Rao said the law would take its own course if any wrongdoing was established. However, he questioned the BRS leadership over its stand during the Delhi liquor scam controversy. He alleged that BRS leaders did not resign despite serious allegations surfacing against members of KTR’s family.
BRS malicious campaign charge linked to governance issues
The Telangana BJP president also criticised the previous BRS government over crimes against women in the State. Referring to NCRB data, he claimed that cases in Telangana increased from 14,147 in 2014 to 23,679 in 2023.
Ramchander Rao questioned the moral authority of BRS leaders to speak on women’s safety and political ethics. He further accused the party of targeting the BJP while avoiding accountability on governance-related issues.
The BJP leader also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi nearing 12 years in office. He urged BJP workers to promote campaigns such as “Mera Bharat–Mera Yogdaan” and “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” across Telangana.
He asked people to conserve fuel, use public transport, support electric vehicles, and participate in environmental protection initiatives. According to him, the country was moving towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat under Modi’s leadership.
Ramchander Rao also called upon BJP cadres to take Central government welfare schemes to the grassroots level. He said party workers should explain the Centre’s development programmes to people across Telangana.
The meeting concluded with discussions on organisational activities and political outreach programmes planned by the BJP in the State.
