IOS Sagar departs Colombo after Sri Lanka port call

Hyderabad: IOS Sagar departed Colombo on Sunday after completing a three-day visit focused on maritime cooperation and regional security in the Indian Ocean Region.

During the port call, the ship’s Commanding Officer met senior Sri Lanka Navy officials and discussed operational coordination, maritime safety and secure sea lanes. The visit also supported India’s MAHASAGAR vision for regional growth and security.

The deployment included diplomatic and cultural engagements in Colombo. Naval personnel hosted a deck reception attended by defence officials and invited guests. In addition, Sri Lanka Navy officers, school students and members of the Indian diaspora visited the vessel.

Officials said visitors observed onboard operations and interacted with crew members during the outreach programme. Meanwhile, naval personnel also visited Galle and Kandy as part of cultural exchange activities.

Maritime exercise after IOS Sagar visit

The visit featured a friendly volleyball match between Indian and Sri Lanka Navy personnel. The programme aimed to strengthen professional ties and improve coordination between both sides.

After leaving Colombo, the naval vessel carried out a Passage Exercise with Sri Lanka Navy Ship SLNS Nandimithra. The exercise included tactical manoeuvres and communication drills to improve interoperability and seamanship.

The Indian Navy said the ship is now heading towards Kochi as part of its regional deployment. Officials added that the mission focuses on cooperation, operational coordination and friendship among Indian Ocean nations.
