Congress welcomes Supreme Court support for caste census

Hyderabad: Congress leaders on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court ruling supporting the inclusion of caste census in the national census process and described it as a major step towards social justice.

TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the caste census was necessary to address social and economic inequalities in society. He stated that the Congress party had consistently demanded a nationwide survey for backward communities.

He said Rahul Gandhi strongly raised the issue during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. According to him, the survey would help ensure fair representation and welfare measures based on population data.

Mahesh Kumar Goud also said backward classes should receive justice in proportion to their population strength. Moreover, he stressed the need for a comprehensive and transparent survey process across the country.

Telangana survey cited during caste census debate

The TPCC chief said the Telangana government had already conducted a successful social survey under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He added that ministers and public representatives worked together to complete the exercise effectively.

Government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court decision. He termed the ruling historic and thanked the judiciary for supporting the demand.

Hanumantha Rao said the judgment would benefit backward communities across the country. In addition, he credited Rahul Gandhi for consistently highlighting the issue at the national level.

He also praised the Telangana government for conducting its own survey earlier. However, he criticised the Narendra Modi government and alleged that it had failed to support measures aimed at the progress of backward classes.

Congress leaders said the ruling strengthened efforts to ensure equality and social justice through proper population-based data collection.
