DCP Rithiraj rewards bus conductor for helping seize 18 kg ganja in Miyapur

Hyderabad: A ganja seizure in Miyapur led to the recovery of 18 kg of contraband after an alert private travels bus conductor reported a suspicious luggage bag to police, prompting Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj to reward him with a cash incentive.

The incident occurred on May 30 at around 8 pm near Miyapur Metro Station. Six men approached a private travels bus bound for Shirdi and attempted to load a luggage bag, claiming they were travelling to Aurangabad.

Bus conductor Srikanth grew suspicious and questioned the men about the contents of the bag. However, they failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and fled the spot.

Recognising the suspicious circumstances, Srikanth immediately took the bag to Miyapur Police Station and informed officers.

Police conducted a panchanama in the presence of witnesses and examined the bag. Officers found approximately 18 kg of ganja inside. Authorities estimated the market value of the seized contraband at around Rs 20 lakh.

Police intensify probe after ganja seizure

Miyapur Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Officers formed special teams to identify and trace the six suspects who abandoned the bag and escaped.

Officials said the investigation is focusing on the source of the contraband and the network involved in its transportation.

Appreciating Srikanth’s vigilance and sense of responsibility, Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj felicitated him with a shawl and presented a cash reward. She said public cooperation plays a vital role in preventing crime and strengthening community safety.

The DCP also urged citizens to immediately alert police whenever they notice suspicious persons, objects or activities. She said timely information from the public can help law enforcement agencies prevent crimes and take swift action against offenders.
