Agartala: DRI gold seizure operations in Kolkata and Agartala resulted in the recovery of around 17 kg of foreign-origin gold worth nearly Rs 25 crore and the arrest of 10 people linked to organised smuggling networks.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out coordinated operations on June 12 in the eastern and north-eastern regions. The action targeted syndicates involved in illegally bringing gold into India through international routes and border areas.
In Kolkata, DRI officials intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 11.6 kg of gold that arrived from Thailand through Kolkata airport. Consequently, officers arrested seven individuals, including one woman, and seized the consignment valued at around Rs 17 crore.

Meanwhile, another operation in Agartala uncovered around 5.1 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at nearly Rs 8 crore. The smugglers allegedly brought the gold through the Tripura sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Furthermore, DRI conducted the Agartala operation with assistance from the Railway Protection Force. Authorities arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the smuggling network.
The coordinated operations highlighted the organised nature of gold smuggling networks operating across different regions. Therefore, intelligence agencies continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement measures to prevent illegal movement of precious metals.
The latest crackdown reflects the continued efforts of enforcement agencies to dismantle smuggling syndicates and disrupt illegal trade channels across the country.
