Hyderabad DCC seeks SIR inquiry over alleged handling of voter forms by political workers

Hyderabad: Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) President Syed Khalid Saifullah demanded an immediate SIR inquiry into allegations that political workers handled voter enrolment and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) forms in parts of Hyderabad. He urged the Election Commission of India, the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer and the Hyderabad District Election Officer to verify the complaints without delay.

According to Saifullah, complaints from Charminar, Bahadurpura and Chandrayangutta raised serious concerns about the conduct of the electoral revision exercise. He said only authorised Booth Level Officers (BLOs) should distribute forms, verify voters and manage voter-related records.

The Congress leader referred to Booth No. 29 in the Charminar Assembly constituency. He alleged that Congress representatives contacted the BLO but were informed that a local MIM leader possessed the enrolment forms. Later, party workers visited the leader’s residence to verify the claim. They alleged that they faced misbehaviour before filing a police complaint.

Saifullah questioned how official election forms allegedly reached political workers. He also claimed that similar complaints surfaced from Booth Nos. 31 and 32, where BLOs reportedly did not conduct house-to-house verification.

Complaints from multiple booths prompt SIR inquiry demand

Another complaint involved Booth No. 219. Saifullah alleged that a person identified as Asghar, who was reportedly associated with the MIM, answered calls meant for the Booth Level Agent. He claimed the caller asked Congress representatives to visit an office at Pakeezah Hotel.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad DCC also received complaints from Chandrayangutta, including Booth No. 102, and from Bahadurpura. Saifullah further alleged that BLOs assigned to polling stations 101, 109, 113, 117, 121, 170, 180, 203 and 301 in Chandrayangutta were not conducting door-to-door verification. He claimed that MIM leaders answered their mobile phones instead.

He said the Election Commission should immediately verify every complaint. He also urged officials to recover any SIR-related forms kept outside official custody. Furthermore, he demanded action against any BLO, BLA or political functionary found interfering with the revision process.

Saifullah stressed that voter information should remain with authorised election officials. He warned that unauthorised handling of forms could undermine public confidence in the revision exercise. He added that genuine voters must not lose their voting rights because of political interference or procedural lapses.

The Hyderabad DCC president said the Congress would continue monitoring the revision process across the city. He added that the party would submit fresh complaints wherever it found alleged violations.
