New Delhi: Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has strengthened monitoring of de-addiction and rehabilitation centres through the NMBA MIS under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). Minister of State B. L. Verma shared the details in a written reply to Karti P. Chidambaram in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Ministry said officials assess the centres on several performance indicators. These include bed capacity, occupancy, ward space, counselling rooms, medicine storage, recreation facilities, cleanliness and free food. Inspectors also review staffing, medical care, psychosocial services, follow-up support, record maintenance, fund utilisation and outreach activities.
The Ministry introduced the NMBA MIS to improve treatment and rehabilitation services. The digital platform records beneficiary-wise information from prevention, treatment and rehabilitation facilities across the country. It captures patient registration details, clinical assessments, substance use patterns, diagnosis, treatment, psychosocial interventions and follow-up care. The system also helps officials track treatment outcomes and rehabilitation progress.
NMBA MIS improves oversight under NAPDDR
The Ministry said the Project Monitoring Unit regularly inspects de-addiction centres through random surprise visits under the Standard Operating Procedure. Officials release grants and continue projects only after receiving satisfactory inspection reports. Authorities can close centres that fail to comply with the scheme guidelines.
The Ministry said these measures strengthen transparency, improve accountability and raise service standards. It added that the government remains committed to building a stronger de-addiction ecosystem through digital governance and quality rehabilitation services.
