Harish Rao alleges HAM roads scam in Telangana tenders

Hyderabad: BRS MLA T. Harish Rao alleged that a HAM roads scam had occurred in Telangana, accusing the state government of irregularities in awarding road project tenders.

He claimed that contracts were finalised at 22 to 25 percent above initial estimates. As a result, he said the process lacked transparency and inflated overall project costs.

According to him, expenditure in the Roads and Buildings department rose from ₹11,000 crore to nearly ₹15,000 crore. Similarly, Panchayat Raj works increased from ₹6,000 crore to about ₹8,000 crore.

Tender process under scrutiny in HAM roads scam

Harish Rao demanded immediate cancellation of the tenders linked to the HAM roads scam. He also called for fresh bidding to ensure fairness and accountability.

In addition, he questioned the policy of providing sovereign guarantees for contractor loans. He said such measures raised concerns about financial risk and oversight.

Moreover, he raised objections to mobilisation advances given to contractors. He alleged that these practices enabled irregularities during execution of projects.

The BRS leader further claimed that favouritism influenced contract allocation. He said certain contractors benefited from inflated estimates and preferential decisions.

He also alleged that some retired officials received service extensions. According to him, these extensions contributed to irregular activities within departments.

Harish Rao reiterated that the issue required a detailed review. He urged the government to ensure transparency and accountability in all public works.
