Harish Rao questions Sigachi fire compensation gap

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao accused the state government of failing to deliver full Sigachi fire compensation to victims’ families.

He said the government had announced ₹1 crore per family after the accident. However, he claimed authorities released far lower amounts. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Rao described the shortfall as a betrayal. He said the tragedy claimed 54 lives.

Rao cited Assembly data to back his claim. He said officials released ₹24.51 crore so far. This worked out to about ₹45.40 lakh per family. He added that nearly ₹29.48 crore remained unpaid under the Sigachi fire compensation promise.

Dispute over Sigachi fire compensation figures

Rao alleged that officials counted statutory dues as compensation. He said benefits such as PF, ESI, and insurance did not qualify as ex-gratia support. He also accused the government and company management of collusion. According to him, they misrepresented rightful benefits.

He criticised delays in issuing death certificates. He also said authorities deducted medical expenses from compensation. He termed the incident a result of negligence and safety lapses.

He urged the government to release ₹1 crore per family without delay. He added that authorities could seize company assets if needed. He demanded urgent action to support affected families.
