New Delhi: India and Chile reaffirmed their commitment to the early conclusion of the India Chile CEPA during high-level discussions held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The talks aimed to strengthen economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
A delegation from the Republic of Chile, led by H.E. Mr. Francisco Pérez Mackenna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, visited India for bilateral engagements. During the visit, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal held detailed discussions with the Chilean Foreign Minister on expanding trade, investment, and business cooperation.
Both sides reviewed the steady growth in bilateral economic ties. Moreover, they emphasized the importance of increasing trade flows and enhancing private sector engagement. They also noted the shared objective of building resilient supply chains and promoting sustainable development.
In addition, officials discussed priority sectors for future collaboration. These included critical minerals, renewable energy, agri-business, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, digital services, logistics, and advanced manufacturing. Therefore, both countries identified strong complementarities in their economic structures.
India Chile CEPA discussions focus on market access and investment
The discussions centered on the ongoing negotiations for the India Chile CEPA. Both sides acknowledged that the agreement could unlock the full potential of bilateral economic relations. Consequently, they expressed determination to work toward its early finalisation.
Separately, the Commerce Secretary met Ms. Paula Estévez, Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations of Chile. Their meeting covered trade facilitation measures, market access issues, investment promotion, and institutional economic cooperation. Furthermore, they reviewed modalities to accelerate progress in CEPA negotiations.
As part of the engagement, an India-Chile Business Roundtable was organized in New Delhi. Business leaders and industry stakeholders from both countries participated in the event. The roundtable provided a platform to explore new partnerships and strengthen commercial linkages.
Both governments underscored the importance of democratic values and long-standing friendly relations. In addition, they highlighted the need for greater private sector participation to sustain economic momentum.
The visit reinforced bilateral engagement and strengthened cooperation efforts. Ultimately, both sides reiterated their shared commitment to advancing a forward-looking economic partnership through the India Chile CEPA framework.
