India’s wind power capacity reaches 57,443 MW

New Delhi: India’s wind power capacity reached 57,443 MW as of June 30, 2026, the Centre informed Parliament. The government also said wind energy projects generated 106 billion units of electricity during FY 2025-26.

The figures were shared by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the government said it continued to promote renewable energy through several policy measures.

The government said wind power capacity increased steadily over the past three financial years. Capacity additions rose from 3,253 MW in FY2023-24 to 4,151 MW in FY2024-25. Furthermore, new installations reached 6,057 MW during FY2025-26.

Wind power generation also recorded strong growth. It remained at 83 billion units in both FY2023-24 and FY2024-25. However, generation increased to 106 billion units in FY2025-26.

Wind power capacity grows across major states

Gujarat led the country with an installed capacity of 16,086 MW. Tamil Nadu followed with 12,273 MW. Karnataka ranked third with 8,896 MW. Maharashtra recorded 6,318 MW, while Rajasthan reached 5,516 MW.

In addition, Andhra Pradesh reported an installed capacity of 4,461 MW. Madhya Pradesh had 3,686 MW. Telangana recorded 128 MW, while Kerala had 71 MW.

Gujarat also led electricity generation with 33,706 million units during FY2025-26. Tamil Nadu generated 24,200 million units. Karnataka produced 18,804 million units. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh generated 8,902 million units, ahead of Maharashtra’s 8,610 million units.

Moreover, the government said India ranked fourth globally in cumulative wind energy installations as of December 31, 2025, according to the Global Wind Energy Council Report 2026.

The Centre said it had introduced several measures to support renewable energy. These include Green Energy Corridors, offshore wind incentives, 100% foreign direct investment under the automatic route, renewable purchase obligations and Green Energy Open Access Rules.

Finally, the government said these initiatives aim to strengthen transmission infrastructure, increase renewable energy use and improve India’s position in the global clean energy sector.
